About the project

Project type: Commercial fit-out

Mark from Frankies at Forde approached us to enclose an existing open area, in order to create a more usable space for the cafe’s patrons.

The difficulties this project presented came from the existing structures, which, when originally built, weren’t built to be converted into an enclosed structure.

With the location of the works being a predominant feature of the main entrance into the suburb, it was essential the new works blend into the existing structure and not look as if they had been added on later.

Adding to our difficulties, the existing perimeter wall that the works needed to follow was curved.

We overcame these challenges by meticulously scribing the Hurfords spotted gum vertical cladding both internally and externally to the existing structures.

The double-glazed window units were site-measured and custom-built to ensure a correct fit with the existing structures. The existing stacker door that separated the inside dinning area from the new area was relocated to allow access from the new area to the existing outdoor seating area.

A barn-style, blackboard-finished door was installed to seperate the new area from the existing indoor dinning area, to allow the space to be used for private functions.

A split-system air conditioner and ceiling fans were installed to ensure the comfort of the cafe’s patrons in any weather conditions. New lighting and a coat of paint finished off this now impressive space.
